… The show consists of 13 monologues, each lasting 7 minutes, 20 seconds. The duration was chosen to reflect the statistic that an average of 197 people die of a drug overdose every day in America — one every 7.3 minutes. During the daylong performance, Charlie will hang up sheets of paper, handmade by Adam from the clothing of overdose victims, one every 7.3 minutes, until, at the end of 24 hours, the gallery performance space will be covered with all 197. (During the Wednesday and Thursday performances, 184 sheets will be hung in advance, with the final 13 going up during the show.)

“I’m kind of hoping this will be like running a marathon — you train for it, but you don’t run the whole distance until the actual race,” said Charlie, chatting between rehearsals earlier this week. He said, “I really don’t know what it’s going to do to me physically or emotionally.
